What to Wear for Any Type of Thanksgiving

By: Lindy Segal

It’s that time of year again, and to go along with all the family, food, and football, you also need a cute (and comfortable) outfit that’s both mom- and turkey-approved. But we know that not all Thanksgiving meals call for the same look. So whether yours is a dressier affair, a down-home day with loved ones, or a Friendsgiving, we’ve got a stylish, comfy look you’ll be thankful for long after that last slice of pie.

A cowl-neck sweater is always in our sweater rotation around this time of year, and it’s sure to keep you toasty at your aunt’s house. (We can’t turn the heat up a little, Aunt B?) We love this chunky knit paired with skinny jeans, loafers, and pretty earrings that can be seen during dinner. Top the look off with a classic camel coat and you’re all set to step outside in the chill.

The best thing about this outfit is that it looks like you put in effort when it is, in essence, fancy sweats. The wide-leg pants are secretly crazy-soft, while the autumnal sweater is the ideal comfy complement. You can keep things super-casual in a white sneaker, but we like the idea of dressing the look up with heeled booties, and adding a layered necklace for a touch of shine.

If you’re taking it easy this year, try an athleisure-inspired outfit that you can wear all day and all night. A One Eleven sweatshirt is sporty but stylish, while stretchy, high-waisted leggings were pretty much made for a marathon day of eating. If you must go outside, a beanie and black sneakers never fail.

If you’re meeting the parents, heading to a restaurant uptown, or just feel like dressing up for the occasion, there’s a way to be super-stylish while still allowing for maximum mashed-potato consumption. An easy floral wrap dress is both pretty and forgiving, and we love it with a coordinating statement earring (who doesn’t love a theme?). Team with simple black heels and a cool coat for an unforgettably elegant look.
