MyFit Tips
Not only is fitness a part of my job, it’s part of my lifestyle. I travel a lot for surfing competitions and photo shoots, but I always try to make simple, healthy choices to stay fit. Here are a few quick tips and exercises you can do pretty much anywhere.
1 CREATE THE
PERFECT
PLAYLIST
My playlist is THE most important part of my workout. Start out with a couple mellow jams to warm up before getting into the up-tempo stuff.
2 STRETCH
IT OUT
Whether I’m planning on a hardcore workout or just biking to the beach, I still warm up and cool down with a stretch. It gets my body ready for whatever I’m about to do, and makes everything that much easier.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. PUSH YOURSELF HARDER. AND LIVE IT UP!
3 WORK
YOUR CORE
A strong core is essential to surfing. It’s all about balance. So when I want to focus on toning up, I start here. This side plank exercise really works your whole body. If this is too much to start with, feel free to steady yourself with your hand on your hip.
4 TRI TRI
AGAIN
Tricep dips are one of my favorites, especially when I’m short on time. You can do these on a chair, on a ledge, or anywhere you can get that extension behind your arms. Plus, it gets rid of the dreaded lunch lady arms. Sing it with me: “You dip, we dip, I dip…”
5 GET A
LEG UP
Leg exercises are important because they usually involve your abs too. It’s like killing two birds with one stone. These scissor kicks are tough but worth the pain – just make sure to keep your heels off the mat for the full effect.
6 BUILD A
BETTER
BOOTY
Everyone wants a better booty, right? Obviously. These leg lifts will do the trick. Do as many reps as it takes to really feel it burn (I start with about 30 on each leg), then take a break for a minute or two before doing a second set.
7 EMBRACE
A HEALTHY
LIFESTYLE
Taking the stairs instead of the elevator; taking a bike instead of an Uber – it all adds up. I try to start my morning with a fresh juice and drink tons of water throughout the day. But like anything in life, it’s better when it’s fun. My number one rule is you have to mix it up and make it new, or else you won’t want to do it.
