Men’s Capsule Wardrobe

When it comes to ease of dressing, less is more. A capsule wardrobe offers the promise of dozens of excellent outfits with only a few choice pieces. Our guide to a capsule wardrobe offers all the pieces you need and none of the ones you don’t, along with tips for getting the most from each piece.

1. Merino Sweaters

No scratchy, fusty sweaters here. Our merino sweaters are moisture-wicking, breathable and machine washable. A crewneck sweater in a seasonal color like navy, slate or camel would be most traditional and excellent layered over tees and button-ups and under blazers. If you’ve already got a crewneck sweater you love, consider a turtleneck, which would work with jeans or under a jacket. Check out our guide to all things sweaters here.

Mens Modern Tech Suit

2. Modern Tech Suits

Our Modern Tech suits are machine washable, wrinkle resistant and offer a bit of stretch. Built for style and comfort, the fabric is crafted with 4-way stretch, and the pant features a comfort-stretch waistband. Pick one in your preferred fit: Our extra slim offers the narrowest shoulders and most fitted pants, while our slim is slightly more classic, with fitted shoulders and a natural fit through the pants. If your life leans more formal, a black suit would likely get the most wear; gray or navy can be readily dressed up or down.

3. 1MX Shirts

What makes a 1MX so iconic? The dress shirt has sold over 40 million, making it a mainstay in every guy’s wardrobe. Loved for the perfect level of stretch and ease of care, the classic button-down is a must. The moisture-wicking and machine washable fabric means it’s one of the most comfortable and practical dress shirts you’ll ever own. If you’re looking for a shirt that’s form-fitting all over, opt for our extra slim fit. Alternately, our classic fit is relaxed all over. You’ll find our slim fit narrow through the chest, shoulders and waist. If you’ve got solids covered in your closet already, a small geometric print or a paisley would add flash, worn layered or alone.

Mens Denim

4. Denim

You’ll never regret a new pair of great jeans. Look for something with stretch; jeans should never leave you feeling hemmed in or restricted. If you’ve already built a robust denim wardrobe, this could be the ideal time for a novel color, like olive, brown or light gray. Otherwise, go for a medium wash jean in a sharp fit that you’ll feel comfortable pairing with sweaters, button-ups and sweatshirts.

5. T-Shirts

Refresh your T-shirt drawer with seasonal colors like black, navy or gray. If you’re already stocked up on the basics, consider a graphic or printed tee. All of the above will work layered under blazers or cardigan sweaters, or worn solo.

6. Joggers

When investing in new joggers, don’t think about them as something you’ll just wear around the house—mostly because you know you’ll want to wear them out, too. Instead, opt for a streamlined fit with smart details, like a finished waistband and tailored hems. Worn with sneakers and a sweater, joggers are a great weekend outfit. With a hoodie, they’re perfect for errands or the gym.

7. Outerwear

The best jacket or coat for you depends on your lifestyle. Someone who’s headed into the office each day—or just likes dressing up—will get the most wear from a topcoat in a wool blend. If your life is more downtown cool, maybe a moto, leather or denim jacket would better fit your day-to-day vibe. Either way, your coat should be timeless and something you’ll want to return to season after season.

8. Chinos

A chino is that go-to pant that’s not quite as low-key as denim, without feeling as dressy as suit pants. As always, you’ll want to find the right fit, whether you prefer super-slim, traditional or something with a bit more room. Then you can think about other details, like pleating, a drawstring waist or updated colors, like caramel or teal. Good chinos will be at-home alongside sweaters or button-ups, T-shirts or blazers.

9. Dress Shoes

Look for a brown or cognac dress shoe; most guys find black is too formal for regular use. Loafers would look great with chinos or jeans, while oxfords have a slightly more formal appeal. An ankle boot is another option, and the right pair will look refined with both tailored pants or your go-to denim.

10. Sneakers

You don’t need us to school you in the supreme versatility of a good pair of kicks. For the fall and winter months, suede or leather sneakers have a richer feel. Even if white sneakers and soles are your preference, black, gray and brown with vintage-style gum soles are cool options for cooler months.
