Refresh Your Closet for Spring with 9 Easy Pieces (and 43 Looks)
Refresh Your Closet for Spring with 9 Easy Pieces
(and 43 Looks)
There are a million reasons to refresh your wardrobe for spring, but let’s start with the 43 freshest. This season, we’ve hand-picked nine amazingly chic, impressively versatile pieces (tops and bottoms and layers, oh my!) that, on their own, are great finds. But together? They combine to make dozens 9-to-Night ensembles that run the gamut of office-appropriate to garden gathering to date-night sophistication. Of course, the combinations are (seriously) endless, but our stylists are here to give you a headstart on spring chic.
How We Did It:
We started with the basics—the blazer, the work pants, the jeans, and two shirts—then layered in key pieces that extend your outfit possibilities. Layering was a major consideration. It’s the easiest and most stylish way to take your wardrobe game up a notch. As a result, you’ll notice that the nine pieces get mega mileage, each making an appearance in 10 or more of the final 43 looks. Shop all our picks below, and read more on why we chose them and why you need each piece in your fashion arsenal.
The (Not So) Basics
A menswear-inspired staple that continues to be a dominant trend. We love this ivory pinstripe jacket because it’s flattering, it’s springy, and it looks just as good with jeans as it does with a skirt.
We’re calling it the Fashion Girl’s dress pant. These are our classic Columnist cut, but the white is a little more daring, a little more of a closet challenge. But the white pant is also crisp and clean, elevating every piece it pairs with.
There’s a misconception that “nice” denim has to be prim and perfect. We beg to differ. Our vintage-inspired jeans—just a little destroyed, just a little frayed—are equal parts polished and edgy. Perfect for basically any occasion.
The White Top
Every woman should have a crisp white top. This one has a feminine shoulder detail, a clean crew neck (that shows some collarbone), and a flirty sleeve length. Cute on its own, its slim shape also makes it ideal for layering—it won’t bunch under a dress or a jumpsuit.
The button-down shirt is the ultimate closet essential. Our City Shirt is light and airy and looks good with literally everything. We have endless iterations on hand, but we chose to feature a light blue stripe because it adds a visual interest and the possibility of—gasp—pattern mixing.
The Layering Pieces
(Minus the) Leather Skirt
Every girl loves a leather skirt. We’ve updated this style with a high waist and a punky zipper detail, instantly adding edginess and sexiness to the assortment. Even if you dress it up or dress it down, it will always look extra cute.
Our silky top layer has the classic appeal of a trench with a modern, floaty vibe. It’s romantic, it’s soft, and it does double, triple, quadruple the work of a normal top layer. Tie it up and wear it as a dress, or throw it over jeans, pants, a skirt, or the jumpsuit. It’s a gorgeous extra piece that makes all the difference.
Dresses are an obvious must-have. We’re anything but obvious, so we modernized our selection by going with a jumpsuit instead. Since this one is strapless, it comes with layering options but looks just as chicly sweet on its own.
OK, we know a tube top is a bold move here. It’s the last piece we added in, but you know, It might be our favorite. This striped, tie front tube top adds oodles of outfit versatility. It’s the ultimate layering piece, and if you’re feeling extra sexy, it’s perfectly flattering on its own. It’s a one-and-done top that should not be overlooked.
A final note on the palette:
We wanted to assemble a collection of clothing that is fresh and timeless. A base of white, black, and a touch of blue is seasonally transitionally and will incorporate seamlessly with what you already have going on in your closet. Take these pieces and combine them with your flashiest pinks, brightest blues, and most romantic reds. After all, that’s exactly how we designed this group to be used.
