Guest Dressed: Jo & Kemp’s Take on Stripes & Mixing Prints

Guest Dressed is a series where we ask some of the best dressed (get it?) girls out there to help us demystify some of the trickiest trends of the season. These ladies are influencers in every sense of the word—from lifestyle, fashion, food and more, they’ve nailed a look and are serving their personal brand in spades. Who better to help us shop the best looks out there?

This week, Kemper, of Jo & Kemp—an adorable husband and wife bloggin duo—takes pattern mixing for a spin, pairing stripes and polka dots, brights and neutrals. Kemp puts her typically playful-yet-stylish imprint on everything from our classic blazer (in a not-so-classic peachy hue) to stripey columnist pants. If you need some pointers on how to add a quiet jolt to your wardrobe as the weather warms, look no further.

As spring approaches, everything starts to get a lot brighter and bolder. No matter the season, print-mixing is always one of my favorite styling trends. These days, there’s almost no wrong way to throw your two favorite prints together. Stripes and polka dots are two prints that are going to be huge for spring. What I love about stripes is they can be super fun and playful, or you can style them to be dressier for more of a business look or feel. I’m going to be taking you guys through some of my favorite ways to do stripes & print mixing, let’s go!

I absolutely love this first look. We kind of did it all with the dressier stripes for a business meets street style look. I paired the pants with this dot print blouse, and topped it all off with this amazing rose colored blazer. I’m all about some color, so when a couple of pieces are more natural or toned down, you can guarantee that I’m going to throw a piece in there that brightens it up a bit. But why just stop with adding one color? Like mixing prints, I also love to color block or mix different colors. I’ve also been super into little silk scarves. You can throw them around your neck or style them different ways in your hair, & a lot of times, especially in this case, it kind of just ties the whole look together.

The next way I styled my stripes feels more casual. I absolutely love throwing on a tee and pair of sneakers with trousers. I added some color to this look with this lavender moto jacket. This color is super in for the season and I’m excited about it. Loving all pastels right now. If you’re looking for a simple & casual way to wear your stripes, this one is definitely for you.

Lastly, I mixed this same dot print top (from the first look) with a leopard jacket and cream trousers. This can really go either way, a dressier street-chic look, or a casual run-around look. Again, utilizing a scarf can add some color and also break up the prints a bit. If you’re feeling really bold, you could throw a print on the bottom half as well, but I try not to get too crazy ;). Unless a pant has some sort of stripe, I like to keep the bottom half of my wardrobe a little more simple. You can always spice it up with a cool or colorful shoe.

Whatever style you’re going for, there are so many different ways to wear the stripe & mixed-print-trend. So be bold & rock your prints with confidence (:

xx, Kemper
