Your Packing Guide for The City

Memorial Day is always one of my favorite weekends of the year. To me, it always signifies as the official kickoff to summer. It means pool time, firing up the grill, pulling all your swimsuits and sandals out of storage, and having the time to enjoy a beach read. And of course, you can officially wear white. I have never followed that rule myself, but some people still do.

My boyfriend and I rarely have the same days off, but Memorial Day is always an exception, so we always spend the whole weekend together. On Friday, we are headed into the city to enjoy the first night of the holiday weekend. I am taking the beginning of summer very seriously: some new clothing items, accessories, and a fresh hair cut.

To kick off the weekend, we are going to do a date night at this amazing new Italian restaurant before we head out of town to visit family. For date night, I am going to wear this gorgeous pink blouse. I love the tie detail and the cinched waist is so flattering! The material is super light and airy — so it’s perfect for a summer night on the town! I paired it with the cutest bow slides (one of my favorite summer trends), and these frayed hem jeans.

On Saturday morning, we are going to head home for a little stay-cation with my family. I packed some new and summery pieces that will be perfect for the beginning of summer.

What To Pack for Memorial Day:

New sunnies: I love these black and gold aviators. I have a tradition where I buy new sunglasses at the beginning of every summer.

Jeans you can travel in: I love a good legging jean, especially for car rides. They are stretchy so you don’t spend the entire ride miserable — but you still look completely put together. These are a must!

Palm Tree Pouch: I loved the print on this pouch. I am always digging through my beach bag trying to find my credit card, chapstick, or sunscreen. This pouch is the perfect solution, plus it can even double as a clutch.

A lightweight button down: Since it’s still May, the nights can be kind of chilly. I love this blue and white striped top. It’s super lightweight, so you won’t get too hot during the day. But the long sleeves will help you stay warm when the sun goes down at the BBQ. Blue and white has always been such a patriotic combination and you can’t go wrong wearing it to any Memorial Day festivities you may be attending.

An updated sandal: I have been loving the athletic slide trend, and I just could not say no to these metallic silver ones. Who needs a flip flop when you can wear these instead?

P.S. Don’t forget a good book and some sunscreen!
