Load up on protein at Besaws, which just celebrated its 114th birthday. Let that sink in… If PulsePDX wasn’t enough to get you pumped up, this century-old restaurant should! The Farmer’s Hash, served with scrambled eggs, is always a safe bet. Chicken Fried Steak, topped with crunchy batter and country gravy, is perfect for anyone ready for a heartier meal. Fun Fact: After Prohibition was repealed, Besaws was granted the very first liquor license in the state of Oregon, so celebrate by ordering a Grapefruit Spritzer or Morning Would. Portland is FA-MOUS for its parks. In fact, there are 279 parks and natural areas in Portland, to be exact! This accounts for over 10,000 acres of the city’s land mass. Perhaps the best is Washington Park, which is home to the World Forestry Center, Oregon Zoo, and Portland Japanese Gardens, which impressed the Japanese Ambassador so much he called them the most beautiful and authentic gardens in the world outside of Japan. Explore Washington Park here.

A neighborhood restaurant in North Portland, Tasty n Sons features a sprawling menu that draws inspiration from across the United States. You can order Nashville Hot Chicken for a taste of the south, Smoked Salmon Hash for a taste of the coast, and the French Tunisian Merguez Frites Sandwich for a local favorite. We personally recommend the Reuben house pastrami, served with mouthwatering shoestring fries.

1:30 PM – Get Hands-On at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry

Portland is known as one of the greenest cities in the world, and this is due largely to the city’s love of science. The Oregon museum of Science and Industry originally began in businessman Ralph Lloyd’s house. He opened the first planetarium in the entire northwest, which was an instant hit. The City Council stepped up, opening the museum in 1958. Now, the museum is considered one of the best in the country, serving over 1 million visitors annually. From 3D printers to arduino circuits, there are 8 labs and 200 interactive exhibits that will have you oohing-and-aahing. See the attractions and get your tickets here.

5:30 PM – Quick Snack, Voodoo Donuts

Voodoo Doughnut in Portland Oregon, Eugene Oregon, Denver Colorado, Austin Texas, and now L.A. California, was the brain child of Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson and Tres Shannon who had been friends for a while. They always wanted to start a business together. Something that would fit into an extraordinary Portland Oregon business climate. Something fun, different, and one for the ages.

What began as the creating of the Voodoo Doughnut and the desire to return the lexicon to the correct spelling of D.O.U.G.H.N.U.T. has turned into a deep fried revolution.  Add the likes of the Bacon Maple Bar and the Portland Cream to the permanent list of American food icons.  In addition to the more than 50 different doughnuts, their doughnut artists can create unique doughnuts upon request.

You won’t find movies or short films at Bollywood Theater. This is a casual, yet incredibly high-quality, authentic Indian restaurant with a subtle modern touch. The small plates are enough to satisfy, but also light enough to let you sample several dishes.
