6 Unexpected Holiday Parties

There’s nothing better than getting together with friends over the holidays, but we can all admit we’ve been to one too many ugly sweater parties. To help you celebrate your best holiday season ever, we teamed up with Caitlin Lindquist of Dash of Darling to get fresh and festive ideas for the merriest party.

“Most years my friends and I get together for the typical ‘ugly sweater’ Christmas party or secret Santa gift exchange… but this year I am ready to start thinking outside the box so I’ve channeled my inner holiday cheer and have come up with six unexpected holiday party ideas for you to throw this season.”

Pet Holiday Party

“There is nothing cuter than your sweet pet in a silly outfit, am I right? So why not throw a party for them and invite your besties over for a little fun and a lot of laughter? Just imagine a gaggle of puppies dressed up as elves. If that’s not Christmas joy, then I don’t know what is. Just think of the photo opportunities! And you can even hold a contest and gift the winner something extra special or you can have several winners and gift prizes to those with “the most creative costume,” or “silliest pet” etc.”

Playing Santa Party

“Head to your local post office and gather some letters to Santa. Then, invite your near and dear over with items like toys and coats while drawing families to cutely package and send the items off to. You can sing, dance, sip and snack on freshly made cookies while doing some good for others with your friends. What else could put a brighter smile on your face?”

Gingerbread House Decorating Party

“Competition is perfectly healthy and normal during the holidays, right? Why not invite your friends over and have a ball decorating gingerbread houses and be sure to tell them that the more silly or creative, the better. Just keep the champagne flowing and set a timer. Ready, set, decorate!”

Christmas Cookie Swap

“Skip those traditional secret Santa gift parties and swap out the gifts for cookies. That way, no one will feel jealous or inadequate with their gift. Just ask everyone to bring their favorite holiday cookies (and recipe if they’re willing to share) and draw names.”

Holiday Carols Karaoke Night

“Christmas carols are everywhere right now… and if you can’t beat ’em, then you gotta join ’em. Invite your gal pals over for a little caroling at home so you can show off your best Mariah Carey impression with the ever-classic ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You.’ And don’t forget the eggnog because it may take a few before you get the nerves to belt it all out.”

Twelve Days of Cookies Party

“I know, I know, I already mentioned a cookie party. But what’s Christmas without a few extra pounds, I mean cookies, am I right? And what better way than to sample twelve different types of cookies? Invite eleven of your closest girls over for a “twelve days of cookies” party. Set out everyone’s cookies and ask everyone to sample, then guess who’s cookies were baked by who by writing their answers down. For each person they guessed wrong, they have to take a shot. Or, if drinks aren’t your thing, then give a little prize to them for each one they guessed right.”
